I am attempting to efile an amended 2020 tax return, providing my signature date as today's date 01/18/2022. Turbotax 2020 premier is giving me the error message that the date must be in the year 2021.

Is this a bug in Turbotax? Can I file an amended 2020 tax return in 2022?

No, you cannot efile an emended 2020 return now. It must be printed, signed with a pen, and filed by mail

I am trying to do the same-- efile amended 2020 return because I did not get the right amount of stimulus and someone turbo tax never asked me about it when I filed and I didn't know I could until I read an article about getting the third one which I qualify for and also didn't get. At any rate, it's telling me turbotax closed it's 2020 efile in oct 2021... is there any way around this? It's saying on paper it will take 4-5 months and I could really use this money before then... thanks

@lyds04 -No there is no way around this. It is the rule that you must paperfile your Amended return. See below for details.

There are a few things you need to know before you can start the amendment process:

To amend your 2020 return, you need to use the same TurboTax account that you used to file your original 2020 return.
- If you don’t see your 2020 return under Your tax returns & documents on the Tax Home page, you might be in the wrong account. Use our account recovery tool to find all of your accounts.
Make sure you really need to amend, and that your 2020 return was accepted in TurboTax Online, TurboTax CD/Download, or paper-filed through the mail. You can't amend a return that hasn't been filed yet.
You'll need to paper file your amended return, since TurboTax doesn't currently support e-filing an amended prior-year return.
