Efile Reject Form 8960

I have read past comments etc about this being an IRS issue. Nothing has been updated on my Turbo Tax website since they stated it would be addressed on 2/19. After that did not happen, I searched information, and found out about the IRS issues spreadsheet. The new date was 3/19. Nothing has changed as of yet and the spreadsheet marks it as open. We are only a few weeks away from tax day. I have already paid for my online Turbo Tax efiling. Getting through to help on the phone is basically impossible. This is very frustrating and difficult for planning.

Please try the following steps which may help clear the loop you are experiencing:

  • Log completely out of Turbo Tax.
  • Then, clear your cache and cookies within your browser and completely close out of it.  I have included the Help Articles below if you need assistance with clearing cache or cookies.
  • Re-open the browser and log back into Turbo Tax and see if this fixes the situation.
    • You can also try a different browser as well, or "incognito mode".

Clear Cache

Delete Cookies

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, please reach out to us directly using the Help Article here.  This ensures you will get to the correct department as quickly as possible.

I had already tried clearing cache and deleting cookies. I tried another browser just now, still no differences. I also changed my password. No difference.

I should not have to upgrade to pro to talk to an expert regarding issues that are on the IRS and Turbo Tax end.

This is extremely frustrating.

Sorry to hear that your e-file not working, did you get an error message in your e-mail?

Originally when it was rejected, but not since.

I had read that and other discussions. The solution dates continue to come and go. The IRS spreadsheet of known issues and solutions was updated two days ago, but still has most recent projected resolution date as 3/19, date resolved column is blank, and status column "open." The only information on my Turbo Tax page is that it would be resolved 2/19, no updates since. Bottom line, the communication from both the IRS and Turbo Tax have and continue to be vague and outdated.

I had the same issue with form 8960 - my return was rejected several times. I did see the IRS web site which was just updated on 3/21 and it still shows this issue still open. I decided to try to file again yesterday and just got confirmation that the IRS did accept my return. I did not make any changes to my returns since the first attempt. Good luck

Thank you! When I look at my 8960 form it is still incorrect. There is no Turbo Tax fix at this point, so I am not comfortable resubmitting.

If you are using TurboTax Online, please try logging completely out of the TurboTax website, then clear your browser's cache and delete cookies then try submitting your tax return again.

I keep getting this message from Turbo Tax Specialists. I have done it and it doesn't resolve anything. Based on my understanding, the problem still has not been resolved by the IRS and, in turn, Turbo Tax.

Same issue here... I'm assuming that this is not going to get fixed by the tax deadline.. then what?? I guess it will have to be done the old fashioned way and mailed in.... I would like to know how to get a refund as I paid for turbo tax and also the e-filing costs.

We are aware of the Federal return rejection Reject Code F8960-019-04 Processing error Form 8960, Net Investment Income Tax. The Business rules need to be modified to reflect the updates to the instructions for form 8960. We have not received an update from the IRS on this yet.  The IRS will update the Business rules by mid-March 2023.

Please see IRS Known Issues and Solutions for updates.

As I stated in my initial post, I was aware of the problem etc.

A couple days ago I called Turbo Tax and a specialist assisted me in getting my taxes e-filed. They were accepted. At this point, it is believed that the problem has been resolved, but the IRS has not informed.

Actually, the other day I called Turbo Tax. After receiving guidance from a specialist, I was able to

e-file my taxes and they were accepted. If you do call them, please note that it is a challenge to get

past the automated system to a product specialist. They want to send you an email and have you do

the same things that have been recommended here, such as clear cache, delete cookies, etc. I just kept saying specialist and finally got one. Also, be prepared for a long call. I was on the phone for an hour.

It appears things have been resolved on the IRS end, though they have not communicated that.
