e-signature, e-date, e-IPP

I am attempting to finish my 1040.  I assume I (and my spouse) need to e-sign the 1040 before e-filing.  When I attempt to type my signature, the appropriate blocks change to blue, and a little magnifying glass shows up to the left of the block.  If I click on the magnifying glass, I am sent to "1040/1040wks", which also has the appropriate blocks for signatures, dates, and IPPs.  Unfortunately, none of the blocks will accept anything I attempt to type in.  Is this a bug in TurboTax, or is a signature, etc., no longer required to e-file my return?

My apology if this has been answered previously, but I couldn't find it.

Cheers,

If you will be e-filing the tax return, you do Not physically sign the form 1040.

In the File section of the program you select E-file.  You will be asked in the File section to provide a 5 digit self-selected PIN.  You will also be asked to enter the 2023 AGI from your 2023 Federal tax return, Form 1040 Line 11.  The 2023 AGI is your electronic signature and fraud prevention.

There is no physical signature on an e-filed return.  You "sign" electronically by entering your 2023 AGI from line 11 of your 2023 Form 1040.
