e-file error message even after file was accepted

Hi - I submitted my taxes for e-filing and immediately got an error message "Oops - an issue occurred. Please check back shortly." Within about 30 minutes, the status was updated from pending to accepted and I received an email from TurboTax telling me that my return was accepted by the IRS. And yet the error message persists.

How can I find out what issue occurred and what, if anything, needs to be done to resolve it?

You should check the IRS Where's My Refund here.

"Accepted" means your tax return was received and has passed initial inspection, such as correct Social Security number and correctly claimed dependents.  It does not mean a refund has been approved.

See also this TurboTax Help.

IRS Where's My Refund reflects the status of your tax return.

  • Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
  • Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
  • Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

I’m having the same issue, but I’m not sure if my return was accepted.

I'm guessing IRS servers are getting hammered with efiles.

If I scroll down to the bottom of the Tax Home page where the Oops message of doom is displayed, it shows "Filed 2023 Return" with a status of pending.  Hopefully that timestamp stays on 4/15 if this crap takes all night.

This is the screen I got after I filed. Status says,

"Oops-an issue occurred. Please check back shortly."

Status:

  1. Submitted: 04/15/24
  2. Step 2, completed: Pending
  3. Accepted: not complete

I'm assuming I filed on time, I hope!

I'm getting the same thing here.

Same here! When I go to the IRS "Where's My Refund" page it says "The information you entered doesn't match our records" so I don't think they've got it yet. The question is, will the timestamp from TurboTax affect it or are we all going to be officially late by the time their server issues get resolved?

Scroll down and check the dropdown where it says view efile details...mine does show "received by TurboTax" with a timestamp, and then another "received by the IRS" with another timestamp a minute later, followed by a "filing status changed to pending".

Poorly developed message with that "Oops" warning to scare last day filers like that.

I do see that and mine says the same, but the IRS website still says it's never heard of me. I'm sure it'll work itself out in the next few hours, just frustrating!

Thank you for the suggestion to check details at the bottom of the TurboTax Home page. It does indeed give a timestamp for "Received by IRS", which is some measure of peace of mind, even though I also got the same error as everyone else on this thread.

This is what we get for paying $200-$300.

Same here! Of course they also already charged me. I wonder if it’s a software glitch?

I got that message when I submitted my return at 9:45PM CST.  By 10:30 PM CST, I finally got an email from Intuit that my returns had been filed, and are now pending with the IRS.    Says average response from IRS for acceptance is 2 days.  Regardless, seems to be just an overload on Intuit's side.  Would appreciate a different message though, that's for sure.

I had to battle going back and forth, deleting cookies and cache, and finally was able to get a 20& discount through one of their sites. Never again.

Were you able to see your state return received timestamp as well? I only see it for IRS Federal received time but not for state filing.

I have the same issue but when I look at the file status is says received by IRS April 16, 12:02am. I am in California and it was 9:02pm. WTF. Does this mean it’s considered late?
