Do I need to mail my 1040x

I amended my 2023 tax return because I forgot to add all of my student loan interest. I went from owing taxes to being due a small refund. I am fairly sure it told me to mail the IRS a copy, but I am not 100% certain, and it doesn’t specify when I download the return.  Do I need to mail the IRS my amended return? Should I send it just to play it safe? I filed my original return and my amended  return through the Turbo Tax software.

Yes, you may need to mail your amended (1040-X) return.  Has your original return processed fully.  If not, you should wait until it does to avoid confusion with the IRS.

Your 2023 federal Form 1040-X amended return is eligible for electronic filing if the original return was successfully e-filed using TurboTax. However, there is a chance your return cannot be electronically filed. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.

Three weeks after mailing your amendment, you can start tracking it at Where's My Amended Return? on IRS.gov.
