Death

Can I log in to a family member account after death to file their final taxes?

You would need their login credentials.

I have them, as I always helped with doing them.
Thanks!

It's actually not clear to me what Turbotax will do in this situation, because you will need to check a box for "the taxpayer died during the year." Normally the IRS wants to see your signature on a paper return as "personal representative" signing for the deceased, and not e-filing with the deceased's PIN as if you were the deceased.  Filing paper returns is so dreadful that the IRS may have relaxed their expectations.  But it's something to be aware of as you get ready to file.

In the past I had noticed a spot to check saying the person was deceased and you were filing for them.
Best case is I could log in and see what happens, worse case is it stops me and won’t allow me to file.
I am hoping it will because all the previous years information will be there, making things easier.

I agree, I'm just commenting on the potential for a problem.

Also, sometimes the IRS locks the SSNs of deceased taxpayers to prevent fraud, so you may be forced to mail in a paper return anyway.  Good luck.

Thank you, I appreciate it.  I don't mind mailing in the forms, would just like to be able to complete them on Turbo for the ease and the knowledge of the software. Easier than hiring someone to do it.
