Cost of e-file

I thought the Deluxe version of Turbo Tax included one free Federal e-file.  Is this correct?

If you are using the TurboTax desktop edition of Deluxe you receive one free state program download included in the purchase price if the software was obtained from TurboTax.  That does not include a free state e-filing.

The state e-file charge of $24.99 is for any state tax return e-filed (except New York state).  This charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.

Are you asking about TurboTax Online or the CD/Download TurboTax software that you install on your own computer?

TurboTax Deluxe Online is not free. You have to pay a fee to use the software to prepare your tax return. But there is no additional charge for e-filing. The fee is the same whether you e-file or file by mail.

If you use the TurboTax Deluxe CD/Download software, you have to purchase the software. There is no charge to e-file a federal tax return. You can e-file up to 5 federal tax returns.

There are additional charges for a state tax return and for e-filing a state tax return.
