combat zone

The program asks if I served in a combat zone but does not give me a yes or no, so when I go to review my taxes at the end it keeps telling me I have to errors to fix and keeps asking me what combat zone I was in, I'm Air National Guard, No combat zone, and it wants dates. I do not have ant information for this. How do I get this loop to stop so I can file?

Go back to your personal information.

Click on Edit or Review.

Your name, military, states, CONTINUE

"what was your military status as of December 31, 2019?" CONTINUE

"what was your highest military pay grade in 2019?" CONTINUE

Which combat zone or hazardous duty area did you serve in during 2019? Select NONE

I'm having the same problem, except when I click the drop down list for combat zone, it does not give me an option to select 'none'. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

"None" should be at the top of the drop down list just under "-select-".  Go back to "My Info" and "Edit" your information to get to the question again.

Same deal here. There is no "NONE" option in the list. There is a blank line however. I selected this and then filed my taxes.

Today received an IRS request for form 15109 because they want to know what combat zone I served in.

I didn't serve in any and there is NO option to select NONE in the TurboTax Program. Cant find the place in the worksheets to either. Need help fast to get this resolved.

There is an option to choose "None" in the drop-down list for combat zones.

This is changed by going to the "My Info" section, clicking Edit next to your name and continuing through the interview.

the option for none is not available with the download version and when you don't select anything you get taken through a loop at the end when you try to transmit returns asking for combat zone date. please fix. also i did make sure my download was updated.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

Just to verify, you did not have any Q code in box 12 of your W-2, correct?

I think it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2019" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

  • On your menu bar at the very top, click "Online">
  • Send Tax File to Agent click send
  • The pop-up will have a token number

I'll be able to open TurboTax with your numbers but not your personal information. That may help diagnose the issue.

I am having this issue as well. I have been on the phone with three different agents at this point. None have been able to help. It has been an hour on the phone with no help.

We have the CD program. When asked if deployed to a combat or hazard zone there is no "no" or "none" option. When attempting to transfer the file for e-transfer, it says I have to input the date deployed, when I never deployed and cannot indicate that anywhere in the program. We did "send file to agent" as above. Hopefully this yields a response. It's very discouraging that this has been an issue for weeks, yet when I called no one seemed to think this was a program issue.

Thank you for bringing this TurboTax Download/CD issue to our attention. I forwarded the issue and they are currently working on it.

Same problem.  How do I fix it?  No "NONE" choice on the drop down.  Software is completely up-to-date.

Do you have a "Q" in box 12 of your W-2, or did you mistakenly post it that way?  This would indicate Non Taxable Combat Pay.  That is what would generate the additional questions.

No. The only way I could resolve this issue was to switch to the online software. I was on the phone with turbotax a total of 3 hours. Have still not been refunded for the $24.99 to file my state tax--which didn't work--either. As above, my box 12 was blank. The combat zone question is populated by the turbotax download/CD software regardless of what you do, it is not prompted by anything. I exited the software and started over multiple times while screen-sharing and on the phone with turbotax. It is an error in your program that has been reported on this thread for over a month.

I have the same problem.  There is no "None" option to select in the combat zone location drop down list.  No combat pay is reported on the W2.  The program will not let me file without answering the question "When did you deploy to a Combat Zone?"

@kfr94  Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I apologize for any inconvenience. I had forwarded to issue and TurboTax is still working on it.

I would recommend calling support about the issues with filing your State: What is the TurboTax phone number?

@coxpaul1  Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I apologize for any inconvenience. You might have to call support to switch to TurboTax Online: What is the TurboTax phone number?

I have been attempting to finish up my taxes with no luck. When I get to the Combat Zone question "None" is not an option.  Spent two hours on the phone which didn't help. I made TurboTax an administrator, ensure Chrome was my main browser, deleted cookies/online cache and more. Tried with the CD, TurboTax support sent me a digital copy, both of which failed. Got to the point that Support recommended to delete my return and try over completely fresh. This did not work, and hasn't worked on the three other devices that I tried. Does TurboTax know how to fix this problem? If not how do I get my refund for the $60.00 deluxe version I bought along with the $24.99 it cost me to E-file?

I'm going to go ahead and attempt to correct this error using the forms themselves on TurboTax. Does anyone know what form it should be on along with the line? I've skimmed a couple and will be looking a little more closely within the next couple days. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
