College vs Trade

Does cosmetology school count as “college” if I don’t receive FASFA or use student loans?

You mean for education credit like American Opportunity Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit?  Maybe....if the school is in the list of accredited schools.   If you can be claimed as someone else's dependent, the person who can claim you gets the education credit on their own tax return.

Enter your school at the link below, to see if it's on the dept. of education list.

Hello, PINKNation!

How exciting to learn a new trade!!

I am making the assumption that your question is to determine if you can qualify for education credits for college attendance with your 'cosmetology school'.  If that is correct, then maybe.

For an educational institution such as your cosmetology school to qualify for you to claim education credits, they MUST participate in a student aid program run by the US Department of Education.  You will need to inquire with the school to find out if they participate in those aid programs.  Additionally, they will need to issue you a Form 1098-T, Tuition Statement at the end of the year.

I hope this information answers your question.  If you found it helpful, please say "Thanks" by clicking the thumb icon below.  If you found it to be the best answer, please click on "Mark as Best Answer".
