Charge to e-file

I thought TT premier allowed one state return to be e-filed at no charge. When I went to complete the process I would have been dinged for $25 so I declined to e-file. Why wasn't I allowed to file my state return at no charge?

In the Desktop program it is currently 24.99 to efile EACH state return including the first one. Or you can print and mail state for free.  And be careful, if you have the state fee deducted from your refund there is an Extra 39.99 Refund Processing Service charge (44.99 in California).  So pay with a credit card.

What you got for free was one state program download to prepare unlimited state returns.  Then if you have to file a return in a different state you have to buy another state program for 44.99.

Thanks to both Volvo Girl and epo39b for that clarification.

You're welcome.   Good luck.

In the desktop products there is a 24.99 fee to efile each state return.  There is no state efile fee for New York state, and no fee to print and mail the state returns.

The included state in Premier is the program software.  Desktop Premier includes a state program download to prepare state returns for that state, but there is an efile fee for each state return as mentioned above.

As VolvoGirl cautioned above, there is an extra 39.99 fee (44.99 for California) if you choose to pay that 24.99 state efile fee out of your Federal refund.   So you'll avoid that extra processing fee if you pay upfront by credit/debit card.
