Are you referring to the self-select pin or IP Pin? Please let us know so we can further assist you.

Correct Taxpayer's Prior Year PIN

The 5-digit PIN to electronically file is "grayed out" with "00000" in the gray box.  So, I cannot even enter a 5-digit PIN to even see if an error happens on the other end.  This same thing happened to me last year when I filed with Turbotax.  I spent at least 10 hours on the phone with you guys trying to get this fixed.  We tried everything from using the online program to downloading the program.  Nothing worked and this problem was not able to fix last year!  So, I had to paper file and it took over 6 months to get my tax return check.  I almost did not sign up this year for TurboTax for this reason.  I was hoping this problem had been resolved.  Apparently it hasn't.  I need a software guru to fix this.  Listed below is the error that I am receiving when I try to enter my 5-digit PIN to electronically file.

You entered an invalid Prior Year PIN for Frank. Verify and make any necessary corrections here. A Prior Year PIN is a five-digit PIN that you used to e-file your tax return last year. Use only the numbers 0 through 9, no letters, symbols, or other characters. The Prior Year PIN cannot be all zeros.

You no longer enter a PIN to Efile (unless you have an IRS PIN).  If not, you will enter your AGI from your 2021 return.

I can get past entering last year's AGI.  I do not know what an IRS PIN is unless that is issued for fraud which I have not requested.  The problem is that the program requires me to enter a Taxpayer's PIN for both me and my wife.  I cannot enter anything into the "Prior Year PIN".  The area is grayed out with the numbers "00000".  The program will not allow me to file without entering this ""Taxpayer's Prior Year PIN".  I spent 10 hours on the phone with Turbotax representatives last year trying to get past entering this "Taxpayers PIN".  I finally gave up and had to mail my tax return which took 6 months to process.  I was hoping the program would have been corrected by now to no avail! Please call me at [phone number removed] so that I can show you the problem.

If you know you need an IP PIN to file your taxes and you lost your CP01A letter (or never received it), you can:

Retrieve your IP PIN online at the IRS's Get an IP PIN site; or
Call the IRS to have your IP PIN mailed to you (this can take up to 21 days)
We're unable to issue IP PINs and you won't find them on your tax paperwork. You can only get IP PINs from the IRS.

My wife has a 6 digit IP PIN from the IRS, was unable to enter it for our 2021 taxes, had to use paper and still have not received our refund.  We really would like to try again this year, seems like the problem last year was a 6 digit pin, only 5 spaces.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

In order to e-file your tax return, you will need either your last year's AGI or a self-select pin (5-digit pin) you created. Here is an IRS article that will provide information.

Please refer to the following article to see the difference between an IP PIN and a self-select pin.

What's an IP PIN? Do I need one?

It was my Federal e-filing PIN which I received last year, June 2022. After a half hour working with trying to find the answer within the TT help community and playing with the software, i figured it out by going to the FILE tab at the top of Step by Step view. . The information is entered there.

It would be helpful if Turbo Tax (I use Deluxe) would have a pop-up or some other direction saying this information in entered under the File (your return) tab in Step by Step view.
