I just completed my Federal and State returns. I chose the e-file option for both and then filled out all the requested information and paid for the state e-file option. I then went to transmit my returns but I got a pop up window that states "There is an update to your version of TurboTax. Before you can file electronically, you'll need to get this update." I did receive an automatic update before I opened the program to finish my return. I also tried to download any new updates through the menu option but I am told that the program is already up to date. I even restarted my computer, but I keep getting the message whenever I try to e-file. Does anyone have any ideas?
Same issue here but it did work last week when I did my sons
My issue is only with NY State ... (I added to do my daughter's Taxes).
I am having the exact same problem. I believe the problem is with Turbo Tax and not us. I did another tax return a few weeks ago, and did not have this problem. I just want to know how we are supposed to e-file???
I have the same problem. Fed and NY tax efiling. I have been on with tech support for 45 min uninstall/install, uninstall, install....did the manual update...….still not working. Will call support again tomorrow....I guess.
Uninstall and reinstall doesn’t work.
Tried multiple times today with tech support.
Same problem! It took 2 hours on the phone with customer service. We tried everything! Turns out to be a problem with DELUXE version. Customer service provided me at no cost the Premier version plus the state. Once we uninstalled deluxe then installed Premier Turbo Tax I was able to efile federal and state. Button line you have to get to a customer service person to get the Premier to replace the Deluxe. The problem is with deluxe Software.
I had the same problem - TT would tell me it wouldn't e-file my Fed and NY State returns until I did an update, tried to do the update but TT effectively said all updates were already in, tried to re-transmit and TT again said I needed to do an update first - an endless loop. I tried clearing cache but no diff. I then pended the NY State (i.e.: e-file later) and then when I tried to re-transmit the Fed file alone it worked! Still couldn't e-file the NY State return though. Spent about 3 hours between speaking with TT support and awaiting callbacks. Annette of level 2 support send me a link: "Turbo Tax Desktop windows: Update Loop At e-file.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/turbotax-desktop-windows-update-loop-at-e-file/00/1116299 " and from there I also clicked out to an embedded link to get instructions to run Disk Cleanup. I ran the standard cleanup then ran the System File cleanup. I then ran TT again and this time it auto-updated the NY State forms (took a while to update tho') but then I reran the e-file for the NY State return and it worked! Looks like running Disk Cleanup and System File cleanup was the key. I should mention also that while all of this was going on, I had my anti-virus turned off to minimize that possible barrier and I also turned wifi off for all devices except the wireless WIN10 laptop that I was using to run TT.
p.s.: I already had the Premier version but still wouldn't work until I took the steps outlined above.
Please see the TurboTax help topic for assistance with updating your software: Manually Update TurboTax for Windows Software (Basic, Deluxe, Premier, Home & Business).
Also, try turning off your virus protection and then turn it back on after your return saves. Please click here for the TurboTax Help link on how to disable virus protection. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/installing/help/how-to-disable-your-virus-protection-software/00/25615
Neither of these worked. I still cannot transmit my taxes.
Same issue here.
Got through to no one when I call.
I called [phone number removed]. There was over a 30 minute wait time so the automatic system confirmed my phone number and eventually a customer service person call me back.
The email remove the number for some reason [phone number removed]
I Received a similar note regarding my California Tax return, saying that I couldn't file electronically because Schedule K-1 Worksheet-Partnership had not been approved. Approval is expected by 2/13/20, when I will get an email and update permitting me to file CA "Non-Resident" tax electronically. I could still file my Federal and VA returns electronically. Not sure if you have similar issue.
Certain federal and state forms have not yet been finalized. If your return contains one of these forms you will not be able to file your return until the form is ready. For current information on forms availability please click on the applicable link below:
TurboTax Online automatically updates the website when the forms become available.
In TurboTax CD/Download, you will be prompted to download any updates available when you open the program. You can also update the program while you have it open by following these steps:
NOPE. ANTIVIRUS OFF. DELETED AND REINSTALLED 3 TIMES. ONE HOUR WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE
I DID SUBMIT MY 2 DAUGHTERS LAST MONTH WITH NO ISSUES. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS!!!!
NOPE. IT SAYS ITS UP TO DATE AND THEN TRY TO SEND AND I GET THE ERROR
FIX IT
Thank you so much for your post! I was almost freaked out when TT refused to e-file my NJ and NY returns. I not only restarted my computer, but also updated its BIOS. Also cleaned disc and system files. Turned off McAfee as well. All in vain. Couldn't even talk to a TT support because today is 4th of July! The whole morning I was helplessly stuck inside the endless loop! Then I found your post and clicked the TT Update Loop At e-file link. Although it only offers NY manual update file, hoping to solve NY problem first, I downloaded NY manual update. Unfortunately, my Windows Installer aborted installation due to some "program missing" or version mismatch. I moved the patch file to different locations on the disc but neither worked. Anyway, after went through many trials, I finally made it work. My solution is: disable McAfee, re-download state program, then clean disk and system files as you suggested, launch TT to make sure state update happens, e-file that particular state return. I've been using TT for 20 years, this is the first time it gave me such a big headache. Good luck to all TT users!
Had the same issue today with my 2020 return. Uninstalling an older downloaded edition, then reinstalling the latest update from my TurboTax account worked. After the install it recognized a State version that wasn't available before.
I am having the same problem. After clicking on file in the menu, I don't get any options to efile and program is up to date.
@chuckp5031 Since you are responding to an old thread, can you elaborate more on your issue? In which screen are you getting the error, and what does the error state exactly?
