Can I file 2018 return without filing 2017?

Hello;

I am trying to file my 2018 return but the program prompts me to file and/or it's looking for 2017 return. I am waiting on some missing documentation in order to file 2017; should have access in a few weeks but do not want to wait. How can I file 2018 now?

Thanks

Is the program prompting you to enter a 2017 AGI?  If so, enter a 0 (zero) for the 2017 AGI since you have not filed the 2017 tax return.

Are you using the Online version or the Desktop program?  Just say no to transferring 2017.   You can do 2018 without doing 2017.

If you are using the online version and its trying to transfer 2017 or transferred an incomplete 2017 you can start over.

 There is a tricky way to clear out transferred info in the Online version.  But doing this will also clear out all your entries.  Go to Tax Tools > Tools > Transfer from your computer > Continue > then Continue without transferring.
