Box 16 is $0 for MN, cannot submit return

The place I worked had MN tax on my checks. I wasn't sure why and brought it to their attention. They removed it after I told them I had not lived in MN since 2021. Did not have it on my checks after that. 

Now I am not sure what to do, as my w2 has 0.00 in box 16. And this message keeps coming up and will not let me submit. Please help, thank you.

Leave box 16 blank instead of entering a zero

I just tried that. It now says Box 16 must be entered

Delete the MN and the employer ID in box 15. Leave boxes 15 through 20 all blank.

Will that effect my return? I have an amount for box 17 for MN. I also have another state for 15-17.

Your W-2 is not valid. Box 17 cannot be more than box 16 (for the same state), because the tax in box 17 is withheld from the wages in box 16. You will have to get a corrected W-2 from your employer.


Leave the other state as-is.
