Another user posted this fix.  See if it works for you -

  • change your resolution to 800 x 600 (start>setting >system resolution. once it's been changed, your screen size will look very big. REMEMBER your initial resolution setting!
  • launch TT and the activation screen should launch.  copy / paste in your activation code. you should get the 'all set' green check mark
  • change your resolution back to what is was originally.

This solved my blank activation screen issue with 2020 TT Premier downloaded on 12/13/2020.   Thank you very much

Turned out that this is not a screen resolution issue in Windows, so much as it is a screen SCALING issue. Had an instance where scaling cranked up to 200%. Reset scaling to 100% and changed the resolution to a size that was more comfortable (1920x1080 in this case) and everything worked fine.

The scalling fix worked for me too. What a shabby job Turbotax. I have been using Turbotax for 20 years and I am really disappointed in this shabby versions install problems that were not even fixed by the updates.

I just downloaded Premier today and had the blank activation screen issue. Seems like TurboTax should have fixed this by now. Changing the scale to 100% worked, so thanks for the good info here.

Same issue.

In Windows 10, changed the scaling by:

Right click on Desktop --> Display Settings --> Modified Scale and Layout to 100% (was 125%)

Restarted TurboTax.  Activation windows shows correctly.  Activated and reverted the scaling back to 125%.

Thanks!

Do NOT change the Screen Scale and Layout setting back to anything other than 100%. There are other screens in the desktop version of TurboTax that are also effected by screen scaling. This will cause certain buttons and links to be hidden or drop off the bottom of the visible window and become inaccessible, making it impossible to proceed beyond certain points and complete various action. Use the Display Resolution setting to make adjustments to screen/icon sizes.

CargoGod, Thanks for the great advice to stay at 100%. Saved me future problems I'm sure.

Thanks everyone!  I had to do both to get the activation screen to display correctly.  (scaling to 100% and changed the resolution size).

Changing the resolution did not work for me.  A blank window opens and then closes.  How did I try changing the Windows scaling?

My scaling is set to 100% but the Activation screen still opens blank and then closes.  Any ideas?

Have new Dell 15" laptop that recommends scale of 125% & 1920x1080. Got blank windows for Activation & Help. Changed scale to 100% and everything was normal except small fonts. Had to Zoom in TT & Quicken.  TT needs to fix this iratating bug.

I got past the blank activation screen by adjusting the display resolution, however now the Search window is now blank.   Adjusting the display resolution again will display the contents of the Search window, however I still can't enter any text, click on links, or mover the scrollbar within the Search window.

I have a brand new computer almost straight of the box. I have tried most all of the display debug recommendations and they do help with the display, but not with the text entry.

I never had a problem with my Windows 7 PC.

Spent $600 on a new PC just to get Windows 10 since Turbo Tax no longer supports a Windows 7 version starting in 2020.  (I was not going to ruin my Windows 7 unit with this garbage bloated confusion Windows 10 OS--hate it).

The Turbo Tax Robot won't even let you get to a real person even with your appointment number.

Turbo Tax is becoming very bad news.

Three Turbo Tax technicians and a full day wasted with them telling me to install and uninstall the program,  and my activation screen was either blank or with one blue dot.   The techs just decided to hang up on me after a while instead of digging deeper.   I found this thread.

YES, YES.   Absolutely solves the problem.   Changing the screen resolution all the way down to 800 X 600 does the trick.

Thank you, Thank you for posting.   You are my angel.
