Anyone receiving error form 8582 not available?

Yes, I am receiving the same message.

More specifically, Virginia Individual Form 8582 - Ready Soon.

Anyone know when it will be ready?

How do we contact Intuit to find out when it will be ready.

The IRS is still finalizing some of their forms and because states depend on the information in the federal return, they often have a delay in some forms at the beginning of the tax season.  After they finalize, of course TurboTax needs to integrate them into the software.

 

For state forms, select the type of TurboTax you are using and your state, to see when forms are expected. The dates may still change and this link will be updated. Virginia Form 8582 is currently estimated to be available by February 17th.

If the federal forms are all finalized and it is ready to e-file, you can choose to file just the federal return at this time, then come back when your state forms are ready and then e-file that return.

  1. When you get to the Here are your filing options screen
  2. Select Change next to your state return
  3. On the Change filing method screen
  4. Select I'm not ready to file
  5. Click Save 

Note, if you don't e-file them together, you do have to wait until the federal is accepted before you can e-file the state. Sometimes this takes a day or even two.

According to the IRS site, 8582 is "available." Any help y'all can give us by uploading it into TurboTax would be greatly appreciated!

An alternative for the online version is

 

Go to the state and deleted it.   If the credits they ask about don’t apply to you keep going. Once you complete it, you may not get any additional questions about the 8582.

It's Feb 17, and I still can't file, even after updating my Virginia forms.  Anyone else still locked out due to 8582?

Yes.  Became available 2/17/22.  Unable to delete form from state taxes forms.  Restarting computer did not resolve. Unable to e-file - form not available.

Our team is investigating this error message and more data would assist us.  It would help to have a diagnostic file which is a sanitized copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed but still has all of the forms and numbers entered. You can send one to us by following the directions below and posting the token number here so we can access the sanitized return. Many thanks.

 

 TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign in to your online account.
  2. Click on Tax Tools on the left tool bar
  3. Select Tools
  4. In the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent”
  5. Click OK on the message that a diagnostic file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number.

 

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in top menu bar
  3. Select “Send Tax File to Agent
  4. Click Send on the message and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  5. Please provide the Token Number.

I have the same issue with Virginia Form 8582. Downloaded the latest update today and still won't let me proceed.

Talked with TurboTax support before noon today.  Uninstalling and reinstalling TurboTax did not help.  Form available 2/17/22 but representative pointed out that there is a disclaimer that it may be several days before that released form is incorporated into the tax software.  Representative also said release date was updated to 3/17/22 (I could not see that online as it still said 2/17/22).  Around 11:30 AM I received an email that Form 8582 was now in TurboTax and I should be able to finish my taxes.  Tried that as recently as 5 PM this evening (2/18/22) and the same massage that the form is not available stops filing Virginia state.

from Massachusetts. Recd email that form 8582is available. updated the software. still you get into the program; it says form not available. Weeks are passing . No change in the status.   Looks no one from Turbotax reads these messages at all? why are we wasting our time?  TOKEN NO: 929161

I called TT help line.  Given manual update instructions.  Nothing has worked.  I received the email from TT on the 18th that this form 8582 for Virginia was ready.  Still getting the error on the 20th.  Whatever this is it's all TT.  Please get this fixed.  Long time user of TT and never had such issues.  Token 930679

I downloaded the updates and still receiving the same error message as others have received. Not letting me file my Virginia taxes, What's going on with TT? Does Intuit wants people to abandon TT in 2022?

I am having the same issue with Virginia Individual 8582 Form not being available, even though when request a notification when it is available I get the email telling me it is available.  My updates do not fix it.  I am following the same issue on a different thread with nbr81.  They spoke with a "Maggie", who said the form should be available by the end of the week.  We will see how it goes this week.

Talked to a woman on HELP. She does not have any clue other than guessing. That is the type of help turbotax provides. The 8582 of Massachusetts is available on Massachusetts website. But nothing happens on turbo tax; it still says the form is not ready.  Time to move away from turbotax, it seems. Last year also, they gave me lot of problems saying that even basic forms are not available. Then why are they charging hundreds of dollars? somebody has to respond!

TT is worse than a government bureaucracy. The TT people you talk to you are essentially lowest paid and unskilled staff who just respond to you by reading from the Q&A templates. Anything for which there doesn’t exist a transcript, they will put you on hold for extended periods and in the end you will feel frustrated and leave the call. TT staff will close the case as soon as you put your phone down. TT told me that this issue will be resolved by Feb 24. Today, I checked and now the new time line for fixing this issue is March 3. If TT can’t fix this minor issue, they don’t deserve our business. I will say boycott them next year. I pledge to never use them again.

Today I received another false message from TT that form 8582 is available. Somewhere something is going wrong terribly!

Thank you for sharing your token. Our team is working to resolve the error message for Form 8582 Passive Activity Loss Limitations during Review of state returns and expects to have this updated by March 3rd. Please try your return in Review on or after March 4th.

 

  • If you have the desktop version of TurboTax, please be sure it updates when you launch the program.
  • If you have TurboTax Online and it still gives this error message, please sign out of TurboTax, clear your cache and cookies, or try another browser, then sign back in and take it through Review. Please see this Help article for directions to clear your cache and cookies. Clearing cache and cookies in your browser

This is incredibly frustrating! Seems this has been an issue for a month or longer. Need this fixed ASAP!
8582 should not be in state forms (period).

The latest information from TurboTax is that their software error will be fixed on 3/3/22 and to try and update your software and submit on 3/4/22.  Those following this problem may notice that TurboTax made the same promise with regard to their 02/17/22 release of Form 8582.  Prior direction from TurboTax support via phone to 1. Update your software, 2. reboot your computer, 3. Uninstall and reinstall TurboTax were all fruitless.  If you have rental property and need Form 8582, you will have to wait to see if this issue is resolved next Friday.  If you haven't filed your federal tax yet, you may want to consider purchasing HRBlock Premium tax software for about $45, uploading from your filed 2020 TurboTax and reentering your data.  I did this and it was a useful check in that I found two $20 mistakes in entry I had made which only effected my Virginia taxes.  If you have filed your federal with TurboTax already (as I have), then you still have the option of filing your state tax by mail as HRBlock does not have the software error that TurboTax has yet to resolve.   I plan to see if TurboTax allows me to file efile Virginia next Friday.  If not, I will file by mail with my HRBlock version.  Hope this helps.

I applied the latest update from TT on Sunday, 2/27, and at least the application is saying I will be able to e-file on 3-3.  Hopefully, that is true as the information coming from TT has not been very reliable so far concerning this issue. I did go ahead and e-file my federal without my VA state.   This was not my preferred way of doing it, but TT support has suggested doing it to several people.  In the past, this was not an option.
