Amending 2018 fed return does not change state return (this cant be right..)

I am amending my 2018 return due to a missing 1099MISC while living in MD and prior to moving to CA in 2018. I can see the changes on my fed return and on the CA return (3 months out of 12) but not on the MD return (9 months out of 12). This can't be right...is there a way to reset everything?

You only need to handle MD. Delete it and redo it.

To Delete a Form

Open your return in TurboTax.

  • In the left side bar, select Tax ToolsTools.
  • In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  • Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet and follow the onscreen instructions.

Thank you for your reply. I did that and now the figures have changed, however Turbotax says i also have to amend the CA return (not just the MD).

My income is now higher due to the missing 1099MISC so perhaps this puts me on a different taxable tier overall, is this why i am also needing to amend the CA one?

No, since the income does not belong to CA there should be no change to your California return.

The income is taxable to MD not CA.

You may need to go through the allocation worksheet for CA to make sure the amount is not being taxed in CA.
