Amend (change) button does nothing

Hello,

I am trying to use the option 'Amend using TurboTax Online' but nothing happens. No errors, nothing. I tried in two different browsers. Anybody experiencing this? Any known issue? I need to amend one Tax Return and I am looking on how I can accomplish that.

Which tax year are you trying to amend?

Thank you for your answer. It's 2022. But if I try 2023 I get the same result.

Do you have more than one TurboTax online account?  See this TurboTax support FAQ for how to view all of your accounts - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/many-intuit-accounts-turbotax/L9aVfKS1Z_US_en_US?uid=ll5g6zcx

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.

On the Tax Home webpage -

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.

I signed onto my 2024 test account, clicked on Tax Home, scrolled down to Your tax returns and documents, clicked on tax year 2022 and then on Amend (change) 2022 return

Grabbed this screen shot -

I was following the same path but I have an option to 'Amend using Turbo Tax Online' and this option does not do anything when click on it. I've never used the desktop software:

A 2023 tax return cannot be amended using the online editions.  You will have to download one of the 2023 desktop editions and install on a personal computer.  Then download the tax data file from the online account.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a prior year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-already-filed/L4VjJ9BA2_US_en_US?uid=ld1n99kr

Thanks again for the comment. I read the KB and it's not clear I need to use the Desktop version. Also, it does not make sense to present the 'online' option that does not do anything. It seems like a glitch in the system.

If what you say is true, then why is there a button to amend the return?  Also, why does the FAQ you quote make no mention that (for some reason) a 2023 tax return cannot be amended online?  It just doesn't add up!

It is possible that the verbiage for the mobile editions is incorrect.  Since the TurboTax online editions are now only for tax year 2024 it would make sense that only the desktop editions for 2023 can be used to amend a 2023 tax return..

You will have to contact TurboTax support for assistance with this problem.

I have the same issue and there is no way of getting hold of anyone from Turbotax.

I ended up just downloading the desktop version for Windows.  It's a version specifically for amended returns and there is NO COST.  Much faster and easier than trying to get their online system to work.

I was able to talk to someone eventually. Took a while after trying multiple different things The trick was to open an incognito tab and log-in Turbotax and try amend tax return link again. Worked for me.

The website you linked says:

TurboTax Online

  1. On the Tax Home screen, scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and select the year you want to amend.
  2. Select the Amend (change) return dropdown, then Amend using TurboTax Online. If you're told to amend your return via TurboTax Desktop, follow the steps for TurboTax Desktop instead.
  3. Continue through the screens, make the changes you need to make, and carefully answer the remaining questions to finish amending your return.

For those of us who filed with TurboTax online, we don't have a paid 2023 desktop version to make an amendment.

Same issue. Online help is just AI now and the phone doesn't do anything. Will be switching products this year. I'll try the desktop one as mentioned, but this is clearly a bug. I've amended returns online before with no problem.

Do not use the Amend using TurboTax Online button. Instead do this:

  1. Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information
  2. Then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen
  3. Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents
  4. Click on Tax Year 2023
  5. Click on Amend (change) 2023 return

How to amend my return?

Thanks. That confirms it's a software bug. That button correctly leads to an area to amend the return, but it doesnt actually let you amend it. It will allow you to resubmit your old return, but not change it lol.

Looks like this is a known issue and should be corrected soon. Check tomorrow.

Still doesn't work. Once you click to amend the return you are only able to access your state returns. There is no access to the federal return.

Could you give us more details on the problem you are having?  If you could send screenshots of what you see would be helpful to see what problem you are experiencing?

It goes straight to the "Let's work on your state taxes" screen. From there it takes me to a place to submit them. There is nowhere online to access the federal return.

I was told by another support person to use the desktop instead, but the desktop wants me to pay for the state forms that I already paid for.

Can someone just do this for me? I need one number changed and resubmitted. I paid for the software to do it, and I'm not geting paid to spend weeks trouble shooting basic software fuctions for a $165B company.

This should have been corrected with the last update.

Make sure you have run all updates and let us know if you are still experiencing this problem.

It says my software is up to date. It still says I need to download the state forms first before I can work on federal. To download them I have to pay for them a 2nd time.
