Access violation in module QTBinc.exe

I installed TT Business 2020 and entered my license key. When I try to carry forward from last year, I get this type of error.

If I click NEW, I get an error stating the license is missing or invalid. I had the same problem when using TTB2019 and I don't remember how to fix it.

live chat direct from software is not working.

Live chat only works if I have quickBooks.

I've already tried all that.

New download and install

Delete all registry keys

Run as administrator

I am having access violation issues with QTBinc.exe as well. The software opens communicates the access violation and then does not allow one to enter the key code or utilize the software.  I also tried the repair reinstall, remove all prior versions... and reinstall with no success.

Naturally this occurred in the evening so there is no live help desk and the automated AI phone line could not even register what the problem.

It would of been more useful it the company would have posted an actual solution to the problem rather than just a phone number.

Hi Joel. Here is what I got from Chat.

there is a conflict with older versions, which is funny, because I had the same issue last year and i had to jump through hoops with chat to get it to run. Anyhow, here is their solution, although I haven't tried yet because I have to reboot.

Remove all TT software and reboot.

Create a folder in your "program files (x86) called Intuit2.

Make sure you install TT there.

Apparently that's it.

Ed,

Thank you for your post.

I tried the suggested solution of modifying the file name. Unfortunately it did not work for me either.

My continued research about tax software I discovered that some of the competitor tax filing programs operate with .Net Framework 3.5.  Even though I found nothing specific about Turbo Tax pertaining to .Net Framework 3.5, I wondered if the TT worked the same way.  So I went into my settings/control panel (depending on which version one is running), "apps"(programs), "optional features"(turn on windows features), and  then "additional windows features" (left clicking each time) until a list appears that contains .Net Framework options.  Left click box to add .Net Framework 3.5.  One can leave the .Net  Framework 4.8 boxed checked as is.

Windows will then search, download and install .Net Framework 3.5.  Hopefully that installs without any problems.

In my case,  the installation failed with error code: 0x800F0922. This error code was dealt with by going to Microsoft's website using the link
Create installation media for Windows (microsoft.com)and downloading  for one's version of Windows (versions for Windows 7,8, 10 and 11 are available;  I am running Windows 10).

After completing this download and installation, I returned to my settings/control panel, and repeated the steps for adding .Net Framework 3.5 with success.

The impact on the TT program was I was now able to open it without any further Access Violation errors and the program was operational.

My guess is that while a known competitor to TT visibly asks to add .Net Framework 3.5 as part installation, I suspect TT does it behind the scenes.  However if your computer has an underlying corrupt file pertaining to it such leads to the encountered issues.

I hope this post is helpful to all that encounter the same difficulty.  For those who are interested, Net 6.0 is available from Microsoft

You should contact Support for this issue. They can walk you through the process.

What is the TurboTax phone number? (intuit.com)

My apologies, I guess I should of communicated more clearly.

After one clicks on box to add Net Framework 3.5 in your computer settings, your computer will ask to download it from windows which one authorizes.  Your computer will then search, download and install Net 3.5.  Hopefully your computer installs it successfully.

In my case the install failed and  I encountered a further error message.    The "create windows media" link was the mechanism I utilized to address that error message I encountered during the attempted installation as it essentially repairs and reinstalls windows.  After that repair so to speak, I was then able to return to settings/control panel, click on Net 3.5 with windows being able to successfully search, download and install it.

Thanks Ed - uninstalling + installing to a new folder name fixed it for me. Ridiculous that this was never patched  in an update by Intuit!

I have the same issue.  I uninstalled all the Turbo Tax Business Desktop editions and installed the .Net 3.5 framework; still not working.

best to contact support because the resolution for your issue may depend on the version of windows you're using and  the product year.

here are some suggestions - I know you've tried some already.

Access violations in TurboTax Business can be quite frustrating. These errors often occur due to conflicts with older versions of the software or issues with the installation process. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Uninstall and Reinstall: Completely uninstall all versions of TurboTax from your computer. After uninstalling, reboot your system. Then, create a new folder in your “Program Files (x86)” directory named “Intuit2” and reinstall TurboTax Business there1.

  2. Run as Administrator: Sometimes, running the program as an administrator can help. Right-click on the TurboTax icon and select “Run as administrator”.

  3. Check for Updates: Ensure that your TurboTax software is up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs and compatibility issues.

  4. .NET Framework: TurboTax may require certain versions of the .NET Framework. Make sure you have .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 installed on your system

for 4.8

also depending on your os you may need both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of net framework 3.5 and 4.8
