I'm trying to e-file my partnership return using Turbo Tax Business. It says I must include form 8453-PE, but when I try to print the form it says "DO NOT FILE. FORM NOT FINAL". According to the Turbo Tax list of forms, this one is not supported. Is it needed to e-file? If so, can I e-file without it and mail it in later? Thanks in advance!
That form has not yet been finalized but is projected to be finalized on 1/23/2026.
Intuit will require that form to be signed and dated and included in order for you to e-file your 1065.
The Form 8453-PE is still listed as "unsupported". I am guessing this is why I cannot e-file my 1065. Is there a revised date of when it will be completed?
It depends. The "8453" forms are used for signatures and often need you to scan and upload a signed document or attach paper forms, like brokerage statements. The software needs these attachments sent to the IRS in a certain format..
TurboTax usually waits until the IRS "Modernized e-File" (MeF) system has been running for a few weeks to make sure these attachments won’t cause any issues with your filing. Since the IRS started accepting efile returns on January 26, I would wait until February 9 to file your return.
It's February 14th. This still says unsupported. Can someone assist?
Form 8453 is available for e-filing and printing. Print the form, sign, and attach to your return (ignore the warning message). The actual form is not sent to the IRS. Instead, TurboTax assures the IRS that you have provided the signed form when the return is e-filed.
Confirm the form is listed in the attachments before you e-file. That's all you need to do.
Note Form 8453-PE is not part of a printed/mailed tax return, it's part of an electronically transmitted return.
Here's prior year Community thread on how the 8453 is used in your return.
Hi Patricia,
That link is only for 1040 Individual returns - someone else from TurboTax sent me another link for 1065s and 8453-PE was listed as unsupported. (here) Has this changed? I am still unable to submit my taxes and I'm getting an error. I'm truly unsure how to proceed.
The instructions posted previously apply to TurboTax Business. Print, sign, and attach the electronic filing form. You should be able to file once TurboTax accepts the attachment.
Note that the actual form in TurboTax Business cautions "Do not file paper copies," confirming that the form should be attached to an e-filed return.
