5 federal efiles.

I bought the basic Turbo Tax program, we are a family group of 5 (dad, mom, sister, sister and me) when it says 5 Federal E-files, is it telling me i can e-file my own taxes and those of my mom, dad and two sisters?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, you are correct. With TurboTax CD/Download, you can e-file up to 5 Federal returns.

Does a resubmission (correction) of a return count as an additional return filed? Example - I have filed 4 including the one refiled after I made a correction. Does that now could as 5?

No, when you have to refile your tax return it does not count as an additional return.  In your example you would still have one return available.

And FYI -

Turbo Tax saves the tax returns as 2019 Smith J Form 1040 Individual Tax Return.tax2019. So if you have two or more returns for people that have the same last name and first initial the second return will overwrite the first one. So you have to be sure to first save the returns with names completely different to keep them apart. Don't use the default name given by the program. You need to go to FILE - SAVE AS and give the return a unique name you can tell apart. At least add the full first name. You don't have to use or accept the name Turbo Tax gives it. I save all my returns with different names.

And save often. Be sure to save your return first when you exit or close or if you start a new return. You should always save your return as both the PDF file and tax data file ending in .tax2019, etc. when you are done. On the Windows Turbo Tax program you have to manually save. It doesn't automatically save although it should ask if you want to save when you start a new return or exit the program.

I prepare taxes for free for approximately 15-20 people who cannot afford to have it done professionally.  I would like to use Turbo Tax, but you only allow 5 EF unless I buy the expensive Pro Package.

Is there an alternative?

No.  The e-filing of no more than 5 federal returns is mandated by the IRS.  You can, however, prepare as many returns as you'd like, and print and mail the returns as opposed to e-filing them.

If you would like to e-file more than five returns you will need to register with the IRS as a professional tax preparer.

I have listed 2 returns with the same name saying filed and accepted.  Its the same person and I only did it once.  So my turbo tax now lists 5 filed returns.  But one is the same person.  How do I correct this?  I have not filed my 5th return yet.  Will I be able too?

Does one of the files start with a Tilde ~ sign?  That is a temporary file in case your computer crashes.

No it does not have that sign.
