I completed my taxes two weeks ago but had to wait for the Calif 540 forms updates. I downloaded today and am having two problems that appear to be program based.
1. On Line 5 of the 540 says SS benefits must be entered from 1040. There are no SS benefits entered on my 1040 and never has been.
2. Line 12 on 540 - State wages from Fed return W2 box 16 must be entered. I have not entered a W2 and the worksheet is blank. This error did not show up until after I paid to file electronically and hit the transmit button. I cannot now get past this point.
Line 12 on the 540 already had a zero in it and you cannot edit it. I managed to click something and got another box that had 0.00 entered. I deleted this and the zero on line 12 went away. However, the bigger question is why is this field trying to look at a W2 that does not exist? The next issue was that this error did not appear until I tried to transmit the tax forms.
