They are pretty backed up currently, which is why it may be delayed. You can contact the IRS by clicking here, and they can check the status of the return.

I have called them they say they don't know
and I have checked the status of the refund as well, it is not showing anything.

You can mail the return again and use a certified mail so that you have proof that it was mailed and received. The IRS is very behind with paper returns due to COVID-19. If they get two paper copies of the same return, they will just ignore one of them.
When you print your return for mailing the first page will be a cover sheet. It will tell you which forms to mail with your state return. It will give you the mailing address. Remember to sign and date the return, or it may be returned to you for a signature.

Previously we have send the signed returns with certified mail. I have the receipt with me.
Hold onto that in case you are notified of a late filed return once they get to processing it. I don't recommend you file another one. Just be patient until IRS gets it processed.
IRS is also still processing 2019 paper filed returns. They are really back-logged, even worse now with all these tax changes and additional stimulus checks.
