2 w2s from same employer

I received 2 w2s from the same employer via ADP. Differnet control #'s and different amounts. I determined that the first w2 was for wages that were direct deposited thru mid December. The second w2 reflects what I was paid by a check at the end of December. TurboTax is asking me to review to avoid filing errors. I am reaching out to employer to find out why they did this.  Any advice? Should I combine both W2s?

If the EIN is the same and you work in more than 1 state or city, sometimes they will give you another W2 with the extra state information on it and the top part the same or not filled in. If this is the case, enter 1 W-2 but include both state and local taxes on it. It will let you type in more than one line for boxes 15-20. Don’t add the boxes together.

Same for boxes 12 and 14 if there is no room on the first W2 they can give you another W2 with the extra boxes on it. So list them all on 1 W2. For box 12 just enter it in the next row or box. It doesn’t have to match the box 12 a-d etc.

BUT if box 1 Wages is different then you need to ask the employer.

Report each separately.

Thank you. That won't cause an electronic filing error?

If they both have the same EIN number they will cause an error if reported separately in TurboTax.  Combine the numbers into one W-2 with the correct EIN and report that way.  Keep a note in your tax record telling what you did in case there are questions.
