1099 G state refund

I never dealt with 1099 G fprm. Yes I am married filing jointly. If we receive one do we add it to our tax return or is it necessary? I looked on line but says we don't have to but wanted to ask a expert first.

I received a 1099 G and it has both of our names attached to it. Do we add it to both of our take return or just one of ours?

Since you are filing jointly, it will be included for both of you.  Report the form and TurboTax will figure out if it is taxable or not.

If all three of the following are true, your refund counts as taxable income:

  • You itemized deductions last year, instead of taking the standard deduction.
  • You claimed state and local income taxes (not general sales taxes).
  • Claiming the deduction helped you increase your federal refund or lower your tax bill.

Even when your refund is taxable, it may not be the entire amount. It depends on how much the deduction affected your refund or tax bill. Just answer a few simple questions about last year’s refund, and we’ll calculate the taxable amount for you.

Where do I enter a 1099-G for a state or local tax refund?

That seems easy enough. Was confused. I figured since we both will be filing jointly and entering our W2'S info it would want us both but it in income and wages drop box separately
