1099-B completecheck - asking me the same question over and over again

Hello,

Can someone help me? I got stuck with Completecheck - it is asking me to enter the acquisition date of a stock, which I already entered after I imported the 1099-B as "various". Not sure why it is asking me a for a specific date here. Even if I input a date and click continue, it is showing me the same question again...

From what I have been told is an accepted solution for the time being, if you know the sale was S/T, just pick a date that makes it S/T, and same for if it's L/T. Your brokerage firm statement would have (well, should have) it clearly defined for you possibly by what section of your 1099-B it is in. The other option is to wait until March from what I've been told and I am sure you don't want to wait. I hope that works! Please let me know if it is not sufficient.

Hi Wendy, sadly this does not work. I don’t know what is going on with TurboTax. Even if I put in a date it is still asking me the same question. Even if I delete that transaction, it will ask me the same question for the very last transaction that got imported and if I delete that one, it will ask the question for the last transaction after deletion... so there was always a question regarding the acquisition date, even though everything is already entered line by line with all the information needed. I am very disappointed. Looks like I have to file by paper this year.

Please be sure to send out "Certified Mail / Return Receipt Requested" as this will be your only proof of not only when you mailed it out, but when you get the "green card back" that is your proof that the IRS received it and on what date it was received by them.  SO very sorry it didn't work! If it helps at all, most tax software programs out there are having serious issues with this as well.

One other possible option.....if you know the "category" of stock (S/T, L/T, etc.) you can just select a date that pushes it into the proper category as that is truly all the IRS cares about is how to tax it.

Hello. As I mentioned, even if I input a specific date it is asking me the same question after I click continue. There must be something wrong with TurboTax.

There appears to be a field in your 1099-B that is corrupted.  Here are some steps to correct this.

Use the Chrome browser

Click the three dots in the upper right corner
Select Settings

Privacy and Security

Clear browser data for all time

Then sign in to TurboTax on the Chrome browser
Go to Tax Tools,

Tools, Delete a Form and delete your 1099-B and any supporting worksheets
Go to the program and enter the 1099-B again

Go through the pages in the income section until it ends and then run Review again.

This will give you a clean 1099-B to work with and should resolve the error.
