1098T

Hi I am wondering if I need to have dependent son file return if me as parent filing the 1098T. Box 1 shows 4420 Box 5 shows 8828 and about over 1/2 covered room and board. It said that he needs to report about 3208 of income on his taxes but this is his only income. Being that he has no other income does he need to file a return? Thank you

Scholarships in excess of tuition is taxable to your son.

However as this is below the standard deduction of $14,600, he is not required to file a tax return.
