Yes, if you received an 1095-A you must file it with your tax return.

The Premium Tax Credit is not repealed, they just reduced the amount of penalty for not carrying health insurance to $0.00. If you received a 1095-A you must file it with your tax return or you will possibly receive a letter from the IRS asking you to change your tax return.

To enter the 1095-A in TurboTax:

  1. While signed in and working in TurboTax Online 2019, click on Federal in the black menu on left.
  2. Click on Deduction and Credits in the upper portion of the page.
  3. Scroll down and click on Medical, Show More.
  4. Click on Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A).

Entering your Form 1095-A and answering the questions in this area will produce a Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit, in your tax return.

You can add the 1095-A now. Here's how:

  1. Click on  Federal and then the Health Insurance tab at the top.
  2. Answer the questions about your health coverage.
  3. Select Yes to "Was anyone enrolled in any of these less common plans in 2019?" to enter your 1095-A form.
  4. On the That’s all we need on your 2019 coverage screen, click Done with Health.

Hello GiseleD,

There was not a Health Insurance tab shown at the top. There were no questions that populated for health insurance.

What should I do?

There is no longer a Health Insurance Tab at the top.  That was present in 2018 but not 2019.  Those were outdated instructions.

I assume you are wanting to enter a Form 1095-A since that is the thread title.  Here are 3 ways:

TurboTax DeanM15 in the first answer in this thread has the current navigation steps.   That ACA Healthcare section is now under Medical via this navigation.  I'll also tell you 2 shortcuts below.

  • Federal tab (left column menu)
  • Deductions & Credits (at top of screen)
  • Scroll to All Tax Breaks to see list of main topics
  • Topic:  Medical  (expand using "Show More" to see the subtopics)
  • Choose subtopic "Affordable Care Act (1095-A)"

You can use that navigation method, or here are 2 shortcuts that can be used instead.   So choose which of the 3 methods works best for you.

  • With your return open, click at the top on the SEARCH tab.
  • A Search box should open.  In the search line enter 1095-A without quotes.   Ignore any dropdown results and instead click the blue magnifying glass icon on that same line.
  • You should then see a Jump to 1095-A link.  Click that.

Or here's an alternate way to get to the Form 1095-A interview:

  • With your return open, go to the left menu column and click on TAX TOOLS, then TOOLS.
  • In the Tools window choose the TOPIC SEARCH button.
  • A search window will open.  In the search line enter 1095-A without quotes.
  • Select (highlight) 1095-A in the results list and click GO.

Turbo Tax FAILED in asking for this information.  I am beyond frustrated!!!!  How in the world do your software people not get the "Hey do you have marketplace insurance??" Click "yes" or "no". That one simple question could have saved not only your customers, but the IRS tons of money and worry.  I am a single mom who looks forward to tax returns.  I filed and submitted my electronic return on Jan 17th.  I now have to wait until I get a letter in the mail from the IRS requesting my 1095A and now a 8962. They said to give them 3 weeks to process after they receive it and another 9 weeks to get my return.  So at this rate, I should get my return in June.  6 MONTHS after filing.  I will NOT be a return customer. BTW Tax Slayer prompted their customers with the marketplace question!!!!
