What happened?

I was wondering why I was deducted -1200 from my original return submitted on Feb 15.  I was told by turbo tax wait for a letter! Never got a letter! I never got my first stimulus and my daughters! She's 1! What happened with the unemployment return as well, I filed Feb and it wasn't up yet to deduct the taxes from the first 10200! Why wasn't my return deposited I had to wait for it in the mail, got a travelers check 1200 short, and then had to wait another extra two weeks for that check to clear by the bank!! What is going on, at h&r block I never had these issues! I'm regretting my turbo tax decision! Plus I paid 200+ for help and I got robbed!! So not ok!!

If IRS took 1200 off your refund that means IRS found that you already got 1200 in stimulus and they wont pay you twice. the amount you file is supposed to be the amount of EIP1 and EIP2  you did not get.

The unemployment refunds are just starting to go out now.

Impossible I was on the phone with them everyday trying to find where they mailed it and it was never cashed...they issued another one , and I never got that one ..I called again and they they said they couldn’t mail it out because I would just have to do it on my taxes !!! That’s what I did! Your telling me they took it out again knowing I never got it and they advised me to do it with my taxes??? That’s shady as hell!

If the check was lost, stolen or never received you can't get it back via your tax return.

To start a payment trace:

How to put a trace on a missing 1st or 2nd Stimulus payment.  IRS for Payment Issued but Lost, Stolen, Destroyed or Not Received

See question F3 here, you can expand it to see how to put a trace on it.

@VolvoGirl

Exactly how would you suggest filling out the top of Form  3911

since it

a) os confusing, and

b) has nothing to do with EIP payments.

?

The taxpayer does not, the IRS does - that is a form that the IRS will send to the taxpayer if they could not deliver a refund for one of the reasons checked on the top.   The taxpayer completes sections I, II, & III and returns the form to the IRS.

@macuser_22

If a check is lost stolen or destroyed,

only the taxpayer can know that.

The taxpayer can initiate/request a trace.

see FAQ 3 referenced above.

[edit] It first says to call the IRS.  I assume the IRS will then send the form for the taxpayer to complete.

In that case the taxpayer only completes sections I, II, & III and returns the form to the IRS.

@macuser_22

your interpretation makes sense.

but the IRS page is still confusing.

It doesn't say

  • call us and,
  • we will send you a form to fill out and return.

Agreed, but the form says "The box checked below is in response to *your* inquiry" and "...send the form *back* to us."   I assume they mean the inquiry means a prior phone inquiry.
