Tuition and Fee Deduction - 2018 vs 2019

I forgot to include my 2018 1098-T in my 2018 filing, so today I am trying to do an amended return via TurboTax.  Its not working.

I enter all the data and Turbo Tax is saying:  Based on what you entered, you are not eligible for an education deduction or credit.

For 2019, I got a $2000 Tuition and Fee deduction via form 8917.

For 2018 and 2019 my total adjusted income, deductions and tuition expenses were virtually the same.

What am I missing.  Thank you!

You are not missing anything.  It is just that the 2018 version of TurboTax is not yet updated for the Tuition and Fees extender law that was passed in December.  They just got the 2019 software updated and I don't expect the 2018 software will be updated for a while.  The current year is a bigger priority.  So, just hold on to it and try again later, I would guess much later..;)

You have until 2022 to amend your 2018 return and get your refund.  So rest assured that it will be updated long before your time limit expires!

Maybe I just file it manually.  Is it the same form

Yes it is the same form for 2018 as 2019.  The IRS Instructions for Form 8917 state that the same form can be used for 2018, 2019, and 2020.
