New Born Stimulus Check

My wife received the 3rd stimulus check for her and her child B. She had a newborn in Dec 2021, but her child B is being claimed by her dad for the 2021 tax season. Does her newborn not receive the 3rd stimulus check? Turbo tax says she received 2800 for the stimulus and says she received the correct amount, but that was for her and Child B, not her newborn, does her newborn not get a stimulus check?

If your spouse received a stimulus check for a child she is not claiming for 2021 she does not have to pay it back.   But she did receive $1400 for claiming a child.   When she enters her 2021 information then she cannot get another $1400 even if the child she is claiming now is a different child.

When you say your wife received the stimulus, etc.....are you not filing a joint return?   Why not?

Your stimulus check is based on the number of qualifying people listed on your tax return.   You don't receive a check for the new baby necessarily, it is just based on the number of qualifying people listed on your return.

So, if you lost one qualifying person you aren't claiming this year and replaced that person with a new baby, you still have the same number of qualifying persons on your return.
