my daughter was born in july of 2016, so do i claim her for the entire year or just the five months. i clicked on the whole year and now its asking me how many months in the U.S. do i put the whole year or five months since she was born in july?

Yes. As long as you were in the U.S. for the whole year.

Put down the whole year. A child born during the year (even on Dec 31) is considered to have lived with you all year. When it asks about how long they lived with you, be sure to answer all year (pick the top box for the Whole Year).
