I need help correcting an error on Schedule 3

When I run the error check prior to submitting my taxes, it states I have an error.

It then leads me to:

Schedule 3 - Additional credits and payments worksheet.

Part II - Other payments and refundable credits

Subsection - Deferral for certain schedule H or SE filters smart worksheet

Question 11 - enter the amount to report on schedule 3, line 12e

I have no idea what I am supposed to enter in that box?

Can you please give me some guidance?

Schedule 3Additional Credits and Payments is automatically generated by TurboTax as part of the 1040 if you have any of a number of credits or other payment or refundable credits. If you have one of these items, then the IRS requires the form. Items on Schedule 3 include: Credit for child and dependent care expenses. Education credits.

Line 12e is a manual entry.  Without looking at your return, we can't tell what belongs on that line.  Take a look at your 1040 and see if you have any nonrefundable credits.  Here's how to take a look:

  1. While your return is open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then TOOLS.
  2. Then at the Tools screen click on View Tax Summary
  3. At the Tax Summary screen go back to the left menu column and click Preview My 1040
  4. Scroll down to the schedules below it and find Schedule 3

I am not doing the on-line version so there is no left side menu.

I did find a way around by going to print - preview.

When I do this, there is no schedule 3 listed.

Is it possible to speak to someone?

Schedule 3 - Additional credits and payments worksheet.

Part II - Other payments and refundable credits

Line 12 e worksheet (Deferral for certain schedule H or SE filters smart worksheet)

Question 11 of the worksheet states to enter the amount to report on schedule 3, line 12e

The error states: 1040/1040SR Wks: Line 11 is too large

The value currently on that line is "0" and I am unable to change it.

As far as I can tell, this is asking me if I want to defer any self-employment tax payments.

I do not wish to defer any payments, so I assume that number should be "0"

The number on that line is currently "0" but keeps erroring when I run the check before filing.

Is it possible to speak with someone directly about this, as the e-mails are not solving the issue?

I just spoke to someone at Turbo Tax... delete the "0." (just clear the field for line 11) and the error will go away.  It worked for me.

Thank you. That seemed to work.

I followed the directions above to get to schedule 3 but the form that comes up is NOT editable so I can not fix the error.  How do I edit these fields?  Specifically, line 10 in Schedule 3.  Please help!  This is very frustrating!

For 2021 Schedule 3 line 10 is amount paid with extension.

You can type estimates paid in the search box at the top of your return and click Find and it will give you a link to Jump To the screen where you enter Extension Payments.

To enter the amount you paid with an extension (including state extension)  go to

Federal Taxes (or Personal for desktop H&B version)

Deductions and Credits

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Update button

Next page second section Payments with Extension

Either Visit All or Click Start or Update by the extension you paid
