HSA Contribution Deduction

I am using TurboTax Premier Desktop, and there is not a question that asks for HSA contributions personally made by the employee (not through payroll). So is there no way to get the deduction for those contributions. Is this a known bug and can it be corrected?

As you proceed through the HSA section of TurboTax, TurboTax will present the Let's enter your HSA Contributions page which has a box for you to enter contributions that were not made though your employer.  (Make sure that you have marked the HSA box as you begin the 1099-SA, HSA, MSA section.)

The only screens I am getting are:

  • Medical Expenses – Did you have any medical expenses in 2025? [Yes]
  • Select the health-related accounts you had in 2025 [Health Savings Account (HSA) selected]
  • Did you use your Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for anything in 2025? [Yes, entered distribution details]
  • Tell us about HSA spending – Did you spend HSA money on medical expense only [Yes, all]
  • 1090-SA Summary
  • Were you covered by a HDHP in 2025? [Yes]
  • Do any of these situations apply? [None]
  • What type of HDHP coverage did you have during 2025? [Self]
  • Your HSA Summary [Shows Deduction as $0 because there was no entry for contributions]

The page with Let's enter your HSA Contributions never appears.

Update: Since it didn't appear in the Step-by-Step view, I was able to manually enter the contribution amount on Form 8889.

Odd.  I get the contribution page when I click on the Continue button on the 1099-SA Summary page, followed by the page asking about coverage.  Have you updated TurboTax recently?
