Whether you can or not, depends on if you use it for business as a self-employed individual or independent contractor or if you just use it to get back and forth to work or for personal use.

If you use it just to get back and forth to work, for work while an employee, or for personal use, your car expenses are not deductible expenses.

If you use it for business or work as an independent contractor, you will take the steps below to deduct your vehicle expenses from your self-employment income.

  • Business Income and Expenses
  • Update or Start next to Business Income and Expenses
  • Edit or add a business
  • Update or start next to Business vehicle expense
