Goodwill donation without appraisal.

I donated a lot of items to Goodwill on a single date. No individual item was worth over $250, but the total value of the donation is $6k.  I have a generic receipt from Goodwill (e.g. 12 bags of clothes, 5 bags of electronics, etc), did I need to have anything appraised for the purposes of my taxes? I have already donated it, so don't think I could get an appraisal at this point.

Also, do I need to send anything with my taxes to prove this donation, or is that only if I get asked for documentation?

If you list those various donations as a single item you are required to file Form 8283 and you do have to have the Form signed by appraiser and donee.

If they are all separate items, why don't you split them up.  The descriptions will show that they are separate items.
