TurboTax sort of fixed the Education Expense Credit form, but broke it also. The form asks 3 Additional Info questions, the first one "I did not deduct my contribution as charitable donations on my federal return", you have to check the inverse to make it show up on the form correctly. If I deducted this amount from my Federal income, I added it back to my Georgia income tax. (If it was not, the credit cannot be claimed) I tried just the Business and Individual Credit form to get around this glitch, but it does not generate IT-QEE-TP2 which is now required by GA. Either way, no matter which combination of forms and values I choose, the GA Schedule 1 ADDITIONS to INCOME 5. Other (Specify) is always blank, due to Smart Check. (It looks correct when I am done with the form(s) and use Tax tools -> Print center to review the PDF, but as soon as I try to e-file, Smart Check ruins the outcome again)
After sitting on a call with Intuit support for almost 3 hours, I tinkered around and figured out a way to get past this error. The logic may seem nonsensical, so bear with me.
In your Georgia state return, follow these steps:
When you continue forward, you reach the step Let’s check it over
Notes:
• This method will NOT generate an IT-QEE-TP2, but GA has been accepting my returns without that form since 2021
• In prior tax years, I was able to set the Education Expense Credit contribution to $0 to get past the old error (duplicated Credits), but this no longer works
