I am using TTax Deluxe on a Windows 10 PC. I am itemizing deductions even though the standard deduction amount is a slightly higher amount because it is beneficial for me to do so when taking into account my Virginia and Maryland non-resident returns. I have checked the appropriate box on Part VI of the Information Worksheet to itemize even if the amount is less than the standard deduction.
The problem is that when I do the final review, a $300 amount pops up on line 12b of the 1040/1040SR worksheet as if I were taking the standard deduction. When I remove the $300 and rerun the error check the same error returns every time.
With this error I can not file my taxes. What is the solution to this?
Thank you for sharing your experience here. This information has been shared with the development team, but there is no timeline for addressing it.
In the meantime, you can file your return with the correct information. Just proceed after the Final Review step where you change the line 12a amount to 'blank'. At that point, the forms are correct and will not revert back as long as you do not revisit any section of your tax return again before filing the return.
