I entered charitable contributions in the 2023 version of TT. I confirmed they were there, but the deductions summary does not show them, so the program defaulted to the standard deduction.
Another user reported this problem but I couldn't figure out how to append my note to that discussion.
Is there a fix in the works?
Charitable donations are an itemized deduction reported on Schedule A.
The total of all your itemized deductions on Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit.
Standard deductions for 2023
Single - $13,850 add $1,850 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Separately - $13,850 add $1,500 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Jointly - $27,700 add $1,500 for each spouse age 65 or older
Head of Household - $20,800 add $1,850 if age 65 or older
If you are using the TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions click on Forms.
When in Forms mode open Schedule A and the donations should be listed in the Gifts to Charity section.
OK. The deductions are in the forms view, but I think I see the "problem." Since income documents (1099's etc) haven't arrived I started with entering charitable donations. Since the income entered so far is near zero, the contributions got limited. I flagged the summary page to check after I get some more income entered.
