DCFSA

I have $3000 on Box 10 on my w2. I have put $3000 amount in dependent care expenses. $0 on Schedule E. After I do that. I see +$875 refund (federal+state refunds). My question is why? I have zeroed out my FSA dependent care and didn't spend anything extra. My worry is IRS auditing the wrong numbers.

You would have to look at your Form 1040 to see where the refund is coming from. It would be listed on line 34 and 35(a) on your Form 1040. It would be line 24 (tax) minus lines 25, 26 and 32. Those lines will list your tax paid in and tax credits you are eligible for. The first page of Form 1040 and up to line 15 on the second page would list your income and certain deductions. You can compare that to the same form last year to see what may have changed and then investigate further.

To view your Form 1040:

  1. Choose Tax Tools from your left menu bar in TurboTax Online while working in your program
  2. Choose Tools
  3. Choose View Tax Summary
  4. See the Preview my 1040 option in the left menu bar and click on it
  5. Choose the Back option in the left menu bar when you are done
