Virginia form 502A

Turbo Tax Business insists I make a selection for section A of 502A for my VA state return. I have no idea why. I have never had to enter information here before.  None of the choices apply but I cannot get through the review without entering something.  Section C is applicable so I cannot delete the worksheet.

Same issue - it keeps taking back to my company name and trying to force me to select a Section A choice.  I verified all of my information but will still not efile.

Same problem.  Seems to be issue with turbo tax problem.  Virginia Schedule 502A is NOT required for me, but I cannot E-file because the turbo tax app continues to require an input and none is required in my circumstances.  I am not apportioning income to another state.

Spent 2 HOURS on the phone to attempt to resolve this issue.  The ultimate outcome of the phone call was to receive links to new TurboTaxBus software downloads for fed and VA.  I really didn't believe a new download would accomplish anything so I did not install the "new" software (I'd already run the update feature anyway - I'm sure my install was current.)

Ultimately, after completing the Fed and VA returns in TTBus, I opened the "Forms" view and deleted schedule 502A.  I verified that it had no impact on my primary forms being submitted for VA.  After deleteing I was able to submit electronically to VA.  Hope this helps you out, good luck.

Thank you, that worked!

I took the extra step to have it do an error check while in forms, and it came up stating that it needed a 502A and brought the form up. When I deleted it  (the second time), at the bottom it said there were no errors.

I then closed forms and went directly to filing.  It submitted.

So, obviously something wrong in the logic triggering TT to think the 502A was needed.  I did not have a situation requiring the form (simple LLC filing as S Corp for tax purposes, with an overall loss for the year, so I cannot submit the EZ online directly with the state).  We'll see if they disagree.

Thanks!

I will try this as well but I know there is stuff in part C of 502A that gets transferred.  The 502A form itself does not get submitted but is just used for the calculations.  Thanks for posting.

Same problem.  Form 502A is not required, but program will not let me eFile.  Form 502A is not in the list of Forms on Forms View, so I cannot just delete the inapplicable form.  How do I get past this glitch?

I have the same problem as others, cannot e-file because TT says the 502 is incomplete.   While in Forms I try to delete Form 502 but it just re-appears.  I have checked for updates, none are available.  Saved the return, shut down TT and tried to delete 502 once more.  But it will not delete.

went back over my steps and realized that there are two forms, a form 502 and a form 502A.  Once I deleted form 502A the e-file completed.

Thanks for doing the legwork on this.  That fixed it for me too.

Worked for me. The software was in a loop until I deleted it. I dont know how to report a bug, but deleting hte form was the way to get things filed.

Thank you! Deleting Form 502A worked. I have 3 Virginia LLCs to file and it was driving me crazy.

thanks for figuring this out...forms view -- display the 502A - delete form.  save.  go back to efile. done.

It seems that turbo tax gets worse every year....we all know the tax codes are complex but these basic bugs need to be resolved.

I had the same issue (i.e., error check spots an issue in Step-By-Step View with 502A but that form is not listed in Forms view) and just figured out what you need to do.  Go to Forms view.  WHILE IN FORMS VIEW click the exclamation point/word "errors" in the top of the left bar.  That will run an error check from within Forms view.  A box pops up at the bottom right saying you have an error with Form 502A; click the "Delete Form" button at the bottom to delete form 502A once and for all.  Then go back to Step-By-Step and file the state return electronically.

Thanks to jreinick and others in this thread for developing the work-around to the 502A bug.  garyehrlich's post above best describes the steps I took to resolve the issue.  TT should fix this in the software and give you all a refund for doing their work!!!

"@jreinick"

I'm so glad I searched this issue online and found this post. I tried your remedy. I looked in my forms, and the 502A was not in there so I wasn't sure this solution would work for me. But it was apparent that Turbo Business must have thought the forms was in my return. So I went to "open form" button upper left of screen, and opened that form 502A. Then at bottom of the form, it had an option to delete it and I deleted it. This time when I ran through the e-file process, it went through.

Again, it may not show up in your forms window as being in your return, but Turbo Tax apparently assumes everyone has this form in their return!

Seems there's always some annoying issue with Turbo tax.  But thanks for that post!

It will not let me delete it and will not let me file the return.

Did you click open form at top left of your screen, then click the Errors button?

After that, if I remember correctly, the form (502A) will have an option at bottom, to close, print, delete.

I also did not have 502a in my list of Forms when I clicked the Forms icon in the top right.

Instead I had to, while reviewing after not being able to submit, was on the step when it highlighted in red the 502a section A boxes, was to THEN go into forms (from the top right Forms icon) and 502a automatically popped up, and I hit Delete Form at the bottom, and was able to continue on to submit.

Same issue - so frustrating that I spent over an hour trying everything to fix it before I found this thread.  I deleted the form as suggested and it worked!  Thank you for posting this solution!!!!

When I went in to help a Customer. Form 502A was not listed in his forms but we was able to search the form in FORMS and it pulled up. We then deleted it but it showed it still coming up in error. We went back in and deleted it again and it actually deleted that time. All errors fixed! So, sometimes it may not show in your list of forms and worksheets but still show up in review for errors.

Deleting 502A worked for me.  Wasted a lot of time figuring this out.  Looks like the problem has been know for some time.  Disappointed that TT hadn't figured it out and updated.
