State tax

Back in 2017, I rented an apartment in New York but was barely there.

most of my time I spend in Florida. Should I have filed income tax for New York???? When does someone have to file income tax on a state? I am an airline pilot and this is a bit confusing, since my base was New York, and that’s why I rented an apartment there, but were I spend most of the time was florida.

It depends how your income was sourced. Income from New York is taxed by New York.

Please see 2019 New York Form IT-203 Nonresident and Part-Year Resident Income Tax Return Instructions page 7, Who must file.
