State tax, remote work

Hello community!

I have 2 W2s, one for a job I work in person at and based in California. I have another W2/part time job that I do remote work at: I remotely work from CA, the office is based in NY. I work remotely for my own convenience thus I pay the NY state taxes and withholdings for NYS.

I am trying to fill out my turbotax, and am doing the "Nonresident NY State Tax Return." However after I fill it out, Turbotax tells me NYS is taxing the full taxable income which is my job 1+job 2 income, instead of only the job 2 income (job 2 of the entity that is based in New York). How do I fix this so my nonresident state taxes for NY only considers the NY-based job, not my full time/CA job??

Thank you!

Complete the NY nonresident return first, before you prepare your CA resident tax return.   And make sure you set up your nonresident information in the personal info section correctly.   See How do I prepare a nonresident return.

When you prepare the NY nonresident, you will come to a screen titled New York Allocation, where you will be asked if all of your income was earned in NY.   Answer NO here.

After answering No to the question above, the following screens will ask you to allocate the income that belongs to NY state.
