Schedule UE State filing (PA)

I've been directed to fill a zip for my employer on the Schedule UE.  I'm retired and have not had one in over 10 years.

If you don't have any employee expenses, you do not have to file this form.

Schedule UE is a Pennsylvania form for Unreimbursed Employee Expenses. Although this deduction is no longer allowed on the Federal return, if you have qualifying Employee expenses that are not reimbursed by your employer, you may claim these as a deduction in Pennsylvania.

We file a joint PA return. We both have unreimbursed business expenses. Your software is only allowing data for one schedule UE and the Commonwealth requires we file separate schedules.

My friends, you have much work to do. You need to go through your PA return and allocate which expenses and whose expenses to allocate.

  1. Select state and go through the Pa tax return and go through the questions until you reach a screen that says Unreimbursed Job Expenses press continue you will reach the Schedule UE Summary screen
  2. Now I am going to assume that you have entered these in your federal return and you have your expenses separated from your spouse. if this is done correctly you should have two entries. Edit the first one from the UE summary screen.
  3. Continue through until you reach the employer screen.  Here you need to enter employer information.
  4. Next under job duties, indicate which one of you incurred these expenses and job duties
  5. next screen says Other Miscellaneous Expenses select which expense pertains to you
  6. Then go ahead finish the interview recording your information
  7. When you finish your section, you should reach the Schedule UE Summary screen again. This time you will report your spouses information after you edit the second entry in that screen.
  8. make sure you pick your spouses name when you get to the job duties entry
  9. Finish out the interview.
  10. If this is all done correctly, you have two UE forms in your PA return.  Like i said, you have much work to do.

My Cx is having the same issue. Both Husband and Wife are Teachers and PA is only allowing one person to take the deductions!!  We've tried everything even taking out the errored second one and resubmitting it, but errors keep popping up, and will not allow Cx to bypass it. They want to both claim their deductions.  Any suggestions??

You add the first person and all of their related expenses. Then you select the blue button to add more expenses.

Select the other person on the list and add their expenses.
