print Alabama return

My 2021 Alabama state tax return was e-filed and accepted several days ago. However I cannot print my return and I get a message saying all the Alabama forms are not ready for printing. Why is this and when can I print my Alabama return?

It sounds like there's a state form included in your tax return that is not yet ready for printing.  To check when this form will be available, follow the steps below:

  1. Visit the following Help Article:  State forms availability table for TurboTax individual ...

  2. Select your TurboTax product

  3. Click View availability next to your state

  4. Locate the form and view the print date

Once your form becomes available, it will automatically update if you're using TurboTax Online.  For the TurboTax CD/Download software, you will need to check for updates or update manually using the steps listed here.  Then you will be able to print your tax return.

The turbox answer is a meaningless reply and is not logical.  There is a bug in TurboTax if you can e-file and your return is accepted by the state, but TurboTax will NOT let you save the state return as a PDF.  If we have the capability to file and error check finds no errors and you take our money for e-filing, and the state accepts the return, you MUST provide the save as PDF capability.

FIX this TurboTax bug !!!!

When efiling a return, there are times when TurboTax can send data to the IRS, but a form is not yet available for printing. I checked our forms availability, and the only form I see unavailable for printing at this time is Form 2210, Estimated Tax Penalties for Individuals. If this form does not apply to your tax situation, please contact customer care by following the steps here. We are limited through this public forum regarding the troubleshooting we can perform.

Form 2210 does not apply to my tax return. I will follow the link provided

The link simply takes me to a number to call. I have already done this. It was no help. Seems like since my return does not require the form 2210 then there should be a simple system update to this issue.  Thanks

I agree!  I don't want to pay to e-file.  But Turbo Tax is forcing me to do this if I cannot print my return!  If this is the case, I will check into other tax programs next year after being a faithful Turbo Tax customer for years!

The IRS started this tax season pretty far behind.  That kind of delay flows down to the states.  So the IRS finalizes their forms and then the states finalize their forms.  And then the TurboTax programmers get the forms and have to integrate them into the TurboTax program.  Then there is testing to make sure that the newly added forms work with the program properly.  Then they are rolled out to the public.  As inconvenient as the waiting is it will still get your tax return processed faster than paper filing it.

Robert,
I fully understand the software development process. Your comment does not answer nor resolve the bug. The user should ALWAYS be able to save their return as a PDF, regardless of whether any form(s) is final. If the return can be e-filed, you MUST give the user a PDF save capability. To my recollection, the TurboTax app has always worked this way. The app should/could simply throw the user a warning message, e.g., "Alabama has not finalized Form ####." To remove the PDF save option altogether is unwarranted and IMO goes against TurboTax' user agreement. Request you please elevate this issue to your management.

I called the Turbo 800 number. The lady couldn’t figure it out. Said it was a state problem, not TT.   State said “No! Not our issue!”   I’m very unhappy right now.

..not surprised.  It seems a whole lot easier for TT to point the finger at ALA (or any state) than to own up to their software bug and fix it.

Same issue, Alabama successfully e-files and accepted, credit card charge already processed.  Showing message: "Your Alabama return is currently unavailable to view, print, or download because of some of the forms haven't been finalized yet".  The help comment is to check Alabama forms to see what isn't finalized.

1)  The message states I can't view, print or download the return.  If I can't view or download, how am I supposed to know what form is the hold up ??

2) I checked the Alabama forms on the website.  They are ALL either available or not supported.

What do I do now?   Why did you accept my e-file fee if I cant print the return ?  How do I even know for sure the return was e-filed.  I need a support phone number to discuss PLEASE !!!!!!

Do you or does anyone reading this post who has used TT before or for several years ever remember this issue happening before?

I do remember seeing a similar error or warning saying forms were not yet finalized but I don't remember this issue stopping users from printing a return or saving at return as as a PDF.

I thing TT has updated the app to add this 'feature'.

A couple years back the state of Louisiana had forms not finalized yet and the system would not let me print the forms to mail until the forms were finalized.  Lucky they came around to getting this done just before the tax season expired.  Not quiet your issue but close.  This is disgusting for us not to be able even to see which forms are not finalized or nothing.  I am with you about the frustration here.  Hope they get it fixed soon as I can't finish my state 2021 for Alabama completed yet either.  And it is no help trying to get a person to talk to you either at TT.

The frustrating part is TT will take your money for the product and take more of your money to e-file THEN tell you you can't print or save as PDF the return.  If its acceptable for e-file, why is it not okay to print or save.  I'm not filing again with paper, already e-filed.  Their software is buggy.  The TT app should flag that you've already e-filed, so it is okay to print or save a PDF.  Their design is flawed.

I need to be able to print and save my Alabama state tax return so I can submit it by mail!!!

I paid for this program!  It does not work!!!  I want this fixed!  I should not have to pay to e-file my state return if I don't want to!  All of your "EXPERT" answers are irrelevant to this problem for ALL of us!  I can't get help through this site or through your 1-800 people either.  Why doesn't anyone at Turbo Tax address YOUR issue and FIX IT?@DaraLO

When I click on the “Forms” button in the top right corner of my TT screen, I can actually see every form from my Alabama return.  Yet, still, the print button on the bottom of each form will NOT work.  WHY???? it’s right there and I can’t access it!!!??? I’m sooooooo beyond frustrated! 😫

Form 2210 is not available for printing yet. I can see that in the availability list. However my return does not use this form so it makes no sense that this is delaying my ability to print my return or save it to a pdf file.

TT pushed an update this morning and I was FINALLY able to save my Alabama return to a pdf.  It looks like TT may've finally got their act together.
