I believe I've discovered an error in how TurboTax Desktop (Mac) is filling out Massachusetts Form 1-NR, Schedule B, Line 6 - "Other Interest and Dividends Worksheet". My software and forms are updated as of 3/2/22.
According to the instructions (page 29) for this tax form, line 6b calculates interest received while residing out-of-state: "A
ny amounts included in lines 1, 2 or 3 which you received while domiciled in another state or country from sources other than Massachusetts". On the form itself, the way calculation works is by subtracting interest
receivedduring MA
residencyfrom
allsources (line B) from
thetotal interest (line A) to get line (C) 6b.
However, TurboTax is prompting the wrong information to fill out "B". Unlike the form and the instructions, the software says: "Do not include adjustments for your Massachusetts bank interest here. We will take care of
that in a moment. Enter the amount you received while living in Massachusetts from all sources, excluding Massachusetts bank interest." The software is directly copying what's entered at this prompt to line B, but line B should not exclude MA bank interest. I think this is an error in the prompt text, or the software is skipping a step to add the MA bank interest into this line.
