Payment for State e-File not working

I am looking to e-File my federal and state (RI+MA) tax returns using TurboTax Desktop version, Win10 PC.

When I go through the steps to provide payment information (billing info, credit card info) and click Place Order, I keep getting an error message (pink box) to check credit card info.  I have carefully entered the card I'd prefer to use multiple times, and also tried two other cards - all with the same error.

This experience has occurred on Sat PM EST 6/27/2020.

There is no other option for payment for state e-file besides credit card, and any card seems to trigger an error.

Maybe the following TurboTax FAQ will help:

Error: Your payment information cannot be authorized. Please double-check the information provided and resubmit

When attempting to pay your TurboTax fees, you may receive the message Your payment information cannot be authorized. Please double-check the information provided and resubmit if the billing information you entered doesn't match what your credit card company has on file.

Solution

  • Review the billing address you entered, making sure that your street address, city, state, and ZIP code are correct.
  • Double check that you entered the correct credit card number, expiration date, and security code.

If your billing address and credit card info is correct, use a different credit/debit card, or proceed with the troubleshooting steps below:

  • Close the error message window and try to pay again.
  • Check your Internet connection.
    • Make sure your Internet connection is working and/or your cable is plugged in properly.
    • If you are on a wireless connection, connect your computer directly via cable to your network.
  • Check your browser.
  • Reset (to default) or lower your browser security settings.
  • Allow cookies.
  • Turn off any proxy settings.
  • If you have more than one browser open, you may be sharing your session. Close other browsers and try to complete your request again

Do you have pop-ups enabled on your browser?

I had the same issue when using the downloaded software from Amazon. Had to end up calling and having their tier 3 associate give me an unlock code that finally allowed me to e file the return. There must be something amuck with their payment program.

The response is absolute nonsense.  The Credit Card processing function DOES NOT WORK!!  I have been trying to pay the additional $15 I need to e-File my State for 4 years and NOTHING WORKS.   Unbelievably, I have needed to e-File my Federal (which was included in my software) but have had to PRINT my State Tax return.  I've called Intuit and no one seems able to do a **bleep** thing about it.  Truly pathetic customer service!

What is the message you are receiving when you try to make payment?

2025 and state payment still not working. Spent 2 days on the phone uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. Must’ve talked to 10 people. Time to mail. Using different tax prep software next year. This sucks. :(
