Partial work in VA and GA

Hi,

1. Worked in VA for few months

2. Worked in GA for few months

3. Back to VA, worked for few months

4. Again worked in GA for few months

My primary residence is VA. How to proceed on filing the state taxes with regards to the part time resident dates?

Thanks,

Malia

It sounds like you were a full year VA resident.  You file a VA resident return and a GA non resident return (not as a part year resident).

You pay GA tax on only your GA income.  You calculate VA tax on all your income, including the GA wages.  Then VA gives you a credit, or partial credit for what you paid GA.  There will be very little or no double tax.

Thanks for the response. What do I put as the start date and end date. I have multiple start and end dates for both the states.

Thanks,

A. You usually  don't enter any dates on a resident or non resident return.

If sounds like you may have indicated you were a part year resident.  You don't want to do that.
