NY Tax return double counted

I'm filling out the NY state return and in the "Your New York Income Adjustments" it has my federal income listed again under "What's Been Added To Your Federal Income (Additions)". For 2020, it lists this amount was $0.

As a result, it says I owe a couple thousand to NY, but I don't believe this to be true. How do I fix this?

EDIT: It seems it all stems from form IT-225 which has listed my gross federal income as a NY state addition. Deleting the form doesn't seem to work in the form view.

I found the issue. On my W2 in box 14, there is a line item NYSRCINCOM which had my wage number and I identified it as something that required to be taxed in NY state (sorry I changed it to "Other" and saved already). After I changed it to "Other" the issue was resolved.

Form IT-225 is the NY form for "Claim[ing] for Solar Energy System Equipment Credit". What form did you really mean?

For NY state it is "New York State Modifications". https://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/it/it225_fill_in.pdf

My bad. I was looking at NY form IT-255.

On what line (or what modification number) on the NY IT-225 is it listing your federal income as a state addition? Are you filing a resident or a nonresident return in NY?

I'm having a similar issue, but it is hard to explain what is wrong exactly. Basically, I have a credit for taxes paid in my two states (WV and NY), and it put this total on the IT-225 form , which then makes it look like "earned income"...

The Turbo Tax online platform incorrectly doubled my state income on the IT-203 form (non-resident/part-time resident), which made my actual income look significantly higher than it should have.

All of this is to say I am trying to now amend the 2021 year because I got a HUGE bill from NYS for an incorrect filing of whatever the "PTET" is, and I NEVER have been a corporation. So, I think TurboTax has some MAJOR flaws in their state filing systems, since I have had both my WV state and NY state tax returns rejected in the past two years.

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS/state tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support.  Follow these steps:

  1.  Click on this link
  2. then click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support".
  3. Answer the question regarding what tax year is your letter.
  4. Then it will ask you what the letter concerns.
  5. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.
