Nebefile eligibility

Reading the Nebraska Tax website it says I cannot efile if I had gambling winnings from another state.

To qualify for NebFile, you MUST NOT:

Have any income or withholding from another state (including wages, gambling winnings, or interest income.

Last year I did not file for income in another state and was able to do efile.  This year I am thinking about claiming taxes paid to Iowa so does that disqualify me from efile with Tubotax for both NE and IA?

No. NebFile is the free Nebraska Individual Income Tax e-filing. TurboTax can handle that tax situation by filing your resident return in Nebraska and a nonresident return in the state you won the gambling winnings (Iowa), if you are required to file.

Per the State of Iowa, nonresidents are required to file an Iowa return if Iowa-source income, including gambling winnings, is $1,000 or more and gross income (from all sources, not just Iowa) is more than $9,000 if single or $13,500 for married filers. For more information, please see Iowa Tax on Gambling.

If you are required to file a nonresident return based on the above, then Nebraska will give you a credit of taxes paid to Iowa on your resident return. To ensure accurate calculations, always complete the non-resident return first if filing in multiple states.

Hello Lena, based upon your answer to my question I pushed on and finished my taxes.  I submitted all electronically and federal and both states and all were accepted in very little time.  Thank you for your rapid response so I could finish my taxes and move on 🙂
